Abstract

This study examines the dynamics of grup communication within a virtual community by focusing on the Facebook grup Mobile Legends: Bang Bang INDONESIA, an online gathering space with more than 1.3 million players from various regions in Indonesia. The study aims to explain how grup communication in this virtual community strengthens brotherhood (digital camaraderie) among Mobile Legends players. Using a qualitative approach, the research adopts a method within a constructivist paradigm, viewing social reality as something constructed through ongoing interaction among community members. Data were collected through non-participant netnographic observation over a (September-december 2025), online in-depth interviews with five active members (and an admin perspective), and digital documentation such as archived interactions, posts, and grup rules. Data analysis employed the Miles and Huberman model (data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing) combined with Kozinets’ c analysis stages. Findings indicate that grup communication occurs through strategy discussions, experience sharing, comments, memes, and invitations to play together (mabar). These interactions create an environment characterized by grup cohesion, emotional support, self-disclosure, and the formation of a collective “gamer” identity. Community norms enforced by admins and moderators—such as prohibitions on bullying, spam, and hate speech—help maintain an inclusive and conducive digital space, thereby reinforcing social bonds. Overall, the study confirms that even in fully digital settings, grup communication can effectively build solidarity and a sense of belonging without direct face-to-face interaction.
