Abstract

Natural fruit availability is a key ecological factor determining the abundance and distribution of primates in their habitat, particularly for frugivores like Macaca fascicularis. This study aims to analyze the composition of food tree species, measure fruit biomass availability, determine the abundance levels of Macaca fascicularis, and analyze the relationship between fruit biomass availability and the population's abundance. The methods used include vegetation analysis via transect plots, food production measurement using fruit traps, abundance estimation through concentration counts, as well as data analysis using simple linear regression and Pearson correlation tests. The results identified a total of 716 tree individuals across 38 species, with Pinus merkusii accounting for 515 individuals and the highest IVI (Important Value Index) at 164.24%. The average fruit biomass productivity was ± 43,527.03 kg DM/ha/season, yielding an average energy of ± 3,530,098.693. Meanwhile, Macaca fascicularis abundance across three areas showed 40, 75, and 90 individuals per hectare, respectively, with a total energy requirement for the colony reaching 4,003,818.00 ± 1,487,301.69 kcal. Pearson correlation analysis resulted in an r-value of -0.105 (p > 0.05), proving that there is no significant linear relationship between natural fruit biomass availability and the animal population's abundance. The energy adequacy ratio value (0.052) indicates that the native habitat of KRGT is experiencing a severe energy deficit for Macaca fascicularis. The study concludes that the composition of fruit-producing trees in KRGT consists of 38 species dominated by unevenly distributed pine trees, with fruit biomass production varying across areas, while M. fascicularis abundance remains very high and shows no significant linear relationship with natural fruit biomass availability.
