Abstract
The increasing activities of the manufacturing industry have the potential to increase exhaust emissions that may adversely affect environmental quality. This study aims to evaluate stack emission performance in an automotive spare parts manufacturing company as an effort to implement green manufacturing using the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) method, assess emission compliance with applicable standards, analyze emission dispersion using AERMOD, and formulate improvement strategies. The study employed a quantitative descriptive approach using primary data from stack emission testing and field observations, as well as secondary data including fuel consumption, production processes, stack specifications, and meteorological data. LCA was used to identify environmental impacts, while emission test results were compared with applicable standards and pollutant dispersion was analyzed using AERMOD. The results showed that LPG was the largest contributor to environmental impacts based on the LCA analysis. All measured parameters, including particulate matter, SO₂, NO₂, CO, HCl, and CO₂, complied with the applicable emission standards. The AERMOD simulation showed that pollutant concentrations were highest near the emission sources and decreased with increasing distance, while ambient concentrations remained below the applicable air quality standards. Field observations revealed dust and residue accumulation on the exhaust ducting filters, which may reduce emission control performance. Filter maintenance reduced particulate emissions by 36.73% at C-01, 25.00% at C-05, 22.22% at C-03, 12.50% at C-04, and 9.76% at C-06, while C-02 showed 0% effectiveness. The overall average effectiveness was 17.70%, indicating that filter maintenance can serve as an eco-efficiency strategy for improving emission control performance.
