Abstract

This study aims to analyze the idealities of family life in Islam, elaborate on the status and dignity of women within Islamic law and teachings, and map out the vital role of women (specifically as mothers and wives) in nurturing, educating, and shaping the personality and morals of children for the sustainability of societal order. This research is a qualitative study based on library research. Data collection was conducted through a literature study of primary and secondary sources addressing the concept of family and the status of women in Islam (such as works by Hasan Basri, M. Thalib, Maulana Wahiduddin Khan, and contemporary Islamic law literature). The collected data were analyzed using a descriptive-analytical method with deductive and inductive modes of thought, approached through normative, functional, and socio-scientific perspectives. The results of the study indicate that: (1) The family is the basic unit of society that serves as a sanctuary of protection, a place for cultivating affection, and a foundation for building human and religious values; (2) Islam grants a highly honored, noble, and spiritually as well as intellectually equal status to women, whether in their roles as daughters, wives, sisters, or mothers; and (3) The role of women in the family—particularly in character building, moral education, and instilling religious values in children—holds a highly strategic urgency for the formation of civilization and the future of a nation.
