Abstract

This study aims to (1) analyze the knowledge preservation strategy in the Jayadipuran Culture and Art (JCA) Festival, (2) identify the challenges faced in implementing the knowledge preservation strategy in the JCA Festival, (3) and identify the implementation of the pillars of cultural advancement in the JCA Festival. This study uses a qualitative approach with descriptive methods. Data collection techniques are carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data validity tests use credibility tests including source triangulation and member checks as well as transferability tests, dependability tests, and confirmability tests. Data analysis techniques in this study are data reduction, data presentation, conclusions, and verification. The results of the study indicate that the knowledge preservation strategy in the JCA Festival includes six main stages: (1) identification and inventory of OPK-based knowledge through theme selection and exploration of local cultural elements; (2) validation and evaluation of knowledge carried out through curation and involvement of cultural experts; (3) structured documentation in the form of photos, videos, and narratives of activities to record cultural expressions; (4) classification and archiving which are still manual and not yet fully based on an open system; (5) knowledge transfer through workshops, performances, and intergenerational interactions; and (6) knowledge dissemination through social media and digital publications. Challenges faced in the knowledge preservation process include: (1) limited digital infrastructure, (2) a lack of human resources competent in cultural documentation, (3) weak integration of digital storage systems, and (4) suboptimal cross-professional collaboration between the BPK Wilayah X (DIY and Jateng) and librarians, archivists, and digital information managers. In the context of cultural advancement, the JCA Festival has implemented four main aspects: protection (through cultural inventory, documentation, and publication), development (by highlighting Javanese culture and enriching it through innovation), utilization (in the form of batik training and art performances for economic empowerment and education), and development (through training, workshops, and interactive activities for the younger generation). Therefore, it is recommended that BPK (DIY and Jateng) collaborate with librarians, archivists, and digital information managers to build a science-based documentation and repository system that ensures sustainable access to and preservation of cultural knowledge.
