Abstract

Wukirsari Village, especially Karang Kulon Hamlet, Imogiri District, Bantul Regency, has a variety of local potentials that can be used to improve the community's economy. These potentials include human assets in the form of Batik Giriloyo batik skills, social assets such as patrol activities, RT meetings, community service, and posyandu, natural assets in the form of landscapes, landscapes, and water resources, rivers, physical assets such as roads, bridges, and the Imogiri Reservoir, as well as financial assets in the form of jimpitan and RT cash. This study aims to analyze the forms and challenges of two uses of the local potential of giriloyo batik, embung imogiri I, faced by the people of Karang Kulon. This research uses a qualitative approach with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study show that first, the use of local potential through batik activities is able to open up jobs, especially for housewives, and is developed as tourism education and training for visitors. These activities can increase community income in the range of one million to three million rupiah per month. Second, Embung Imogiri I is used as a place for recreation and sports and provides space for traders to sell around the embung so as to encourage the development of micro businesses in the form of culinary and souvenirs. Third, agricultural land is used as a source of livelihood for the community, while roads, bridges, landscapes, and rivers have not provided direct economic improvement. As for the challenges faced, first, the utilization of the potential of Giriloyo Batik faces limited capital, marketing, and the lack of regeneration of young batik. Second, the use of the Imogiri I Reservoir faces challenges in the form of rainy conditions, relatively quiet number of visitors on weekdays, unorganized management, and limited promotion and marketing. With the support of the village government, batik associations, and active participation of the community, the use of local potential in Karang Kulon can continue to be developed to improve the community's economy in a sustainable manner.
