Abstract

Center for Service to Society of The State Institute for Islamic Studies Sunan Kalijaga has a double function. It constitutes an institute giving a service to society and attempting to get some in-put from it, i.e, some data for developing of knowledge. It is different from other center for service to society, in general, or religious institutions that needs some in-put just for having feedback, especially for evaluating some programmes withtout looking them as a main material in developing and formulating of knowledge. The main attempt that must be done is to re-evaluate the paradigm used during the program has been going on up to present. At first, the paradigm is to help and service to society without any compensation, its object is community that undeveloped in education, economy, and locality. This tends to make the object become either passive or consumtive. In the new paradigm, Center for Service to Society not only to give but also to take. So, people who became the target of the service is very vast, that can be individual, group, community and institution, the educated, the rich. The introduction of the new paradigm in the execution of the service to society in the university is the target of society in some degree, to use the science and technology in the university degree, the demands of the investment fund, the sinergism between programs.
