Abstract
The society in the mountainside of Merapi can not release themselves from the environment where they live. They continually depend and interact with the environment through experiences and researches. They also get the picture of their life's pattern about the good and the bad things or something which is allowed or not related to the attitude toward their environment. It could be seen from the traditional ceremonies held by the society which indicates their system of beliefs. It also becomes a chain of knowledge about the morality toward the environment for the society in the mountainside of Merapi. Therefore, this article try to describe the cultures of society in the mountainside of Merapi in keeping the balance between Cosmos and ecology that is actualize in the form of traditional ceremonies. And they believe mat these ceremonies will keep the harmony between them and the environment to live side by side, especially with the natural or supernatural power in their neighborhood.
