Abstract

Marwoto (10130072), 2013.”The processing of periodicals collection at the Library of Indonesian Art Institute of Yogyakarta. Yogyakarta: State Islamic University of Sunan Kalijaga. This practical report aims to describe how is the processing activity of periodicals collection at the Library of Indonesian Art Institute of Yogyakarta. There are, therefore, two main problems to figure out. They are how is the processing activity of periodicals collection at the Library of Indonesian Art Institute of Yogyakarta, and what are its obstacles. In order to reach the aims, the writer uses four methods in collecting the data needed. The methods comprise observation, interview, literary study and documentation study. While the mainframe theory of the periodicals processing, the writer uses Lasa HS’s theory in managing periodicals. The theory says that the processing periodicals collection comprise checking, stamping, data recording, cataloguing, copying of articles, copying table of content, indexing, displaying, sorting and storing, and binding. The finding in the field – the periodicals processing, mainly it fit with the theory. The activities consist of checking, stamping, data recording, indexing, publication in the website, displaying, sorting and storing, and binding. There are some steps not done, namely cataloguing, copying of articles, copying of table of content because of lack of human resources. Otherwise, there is a step not mentioned in the theory but it found in the field, namely publication of the collection through the library website: http://www/lib.isi.ac.id .
