Abstract

Oracle XE 10g (Express Edition) is Oracle edition which purposed to the requirement of the data management for the instance or the small enterprise to the middle enterprise which freeware licence. Unfortunately, there is the limitation of Oracle XE 10g that is the database capacity which limited 4 GB size. At the instance or enterprise which use Oracle XE and has the requirement of the big data storage so its size is still not sufficient. By making use of this freeware Oracle XE 10g software, universities or instances are able to be experienced the superiority of oracle database althought just limited on 4 GB data storage capacity. The distributed database method which used is heterogenous distributed database system method and use partialy connected network topology in its application of data distribution which selected from this research to solve the problem of the Oracle XE 10g weakness. Based on the result of analysis and study, to show that the implementation of heterogenous distributed database system to academic information system prototype which has been implemented is able to help extending the capacity of Oracle XE 10g which limited on 4 GB data storage by using MySQL ODBC and database link which connecting Oracle XE 10g database to MySQL database in order to build the distributed database network.
