Abstract

This research aims of determining the effects of the hypnoteaching method in the contextual teaching and learning (CTL) toward the communication and critical analysis skills of students in the State Senior High School 5 Yogyakarta. The type of this research was nonequivalent control group design. The study variables consisted of independent and dependent variables. The independent variable was hypnoteaching method in the contextual teaching and learning while the dependent variable was the communication and critical analysis skills. The population in this research includes all students of XI grade of the science program in the State Senior High School 5 Yogyakarta. The sampling technique used purposive sampling technique which was considered by a teacher. The class that was used as the experiment group was XI science program of 1, whereas XI science program of 2 as the control group. The data were collected by using pretest-posttest questions in a descriptive-format. Then, the data were analyzed by a statistical and descriptive analysis. The result showed that the hypnoteaching method in the contextual teaching and learning (CTL) had effects on the communication and critical analysis skills in XI grade of science program of State Senior High School 5 Yogyakarta. From the calculation of the posttest result, the score of communication skills increased at 67.50% (0.05 sig.), whereas the score of the critical analysis skills increased at 68.30% (0.05 sig.). To conclude, the hypnoteaching method in the contextual teaching and learning (CTL) affected both communication and critical analysis skills of students of XI grade of the science program in the State Senior High School 5 Yogyakarta.
