Abstract

This study aims to determine any kinds of bibliocrime, the reasons behind bibliocrime, the operation mode of bibliocrime, and the implications of bibliocrime in a novel to the library world. This study used qualitative approach and literary research study methods focused on bibliocrime. The data collecting methods was done by reading and writing notes. The source of this study used primary data, The Man Who Loved Books Too Much novel and secondary data, notes that related to the object. To analyse this novel, used semiotic study. The result of this study said that The Man Who Loved Books Too Much novel contains some type of bibliocrime such as theft, mutilation, vandal;ism, and unauthorized borrowing. The reasons behind this bibliocrime are stress, obstruded by the library rules, disappointment because of library serves, the unability, to type tulfill the expectation and to get money. The operation of bibliocrime person are by using other persons credit card, by using wet yarn, by hiding the book under clothes, moistened the pages of books, by borrowing the book and not returning book, putting the book inside the pocket, blank check, and taking the book by bag. The implication of bibliocrime inside novel to the library is that bibliocrime can happen to the library. Types of the bibliocrime, the reason why bibliocrime happens and types of operations of bibliocrime inside novel, can also uses in the library. So that, library needs to increase level of security of the library collection. Library ought to do more efforts to gate detector, give satisfying services to the users, give stricts punishment for the bibliocrime person, hire special costudes to prevent bibliocrime and determine the patterns of bibliocrime. Librarians must act assertively to the users, so that user feels about to be cared and can reduce bibliocrime actions.
