Abstract

The research of students’ response to the role of library in SMP N I Bantul is aimed to know/investigate how the response of the students to the role of library in SMP N I Bantul. This study uses deseriptive quantitative method. The samples of this research are the library visitors who are the students of SMP N I Bantul. The are 92 respondents. The sample is taken by accidental sampling. The writer/researcher uses some data collections to gain the valid data, which are observation, documentation, and questionnaire. The main data are collected by giving questionnaire, likert scale measurement and the supporting data are collected by doing interview with the head of the library and the stake holders. The research result is explained in from of table and analyzed in from of sentences that consist of the research conclusion. Based on the data analysis, we know that the average. It can be concluded that the students’ response to the role of library in supporting learning at SMP N I Bantul is good, and from the need orientation, relevancy, and update, most of them say it is good. Therefore, library in developing the collection should focus on the amount of school books than the fiction. From the facility, especially the building, most of the respondents say it is not good and from the room display, most of them say it is good. Thus, library must improve the room comfort especially the location, so that it can be reaches. From the service, particulary the communication, most of the respondents say that it is not good and from the quick and proper service, the say it is good. Therefore, the librarian should serve the visitors well.
