Abstract

SMK Muhammadiyah is a special vocational schools in the field of engineering. There is a lot of engineering that was there and insfratruktur the network using a LAN network. With a large number of these areas there are usually problems occur on a network, such as network congestion in data delivery in an environment of LAN, the existence of a failed data transmissions, and the occasional occurrence of abuse of access within your existing network. Then required the development of a better network and one of them can use the concept of Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN). IEEE 802 .1Q or VLAN is a network that was written by the IEEE 802.1 workgroup allowing multiple networks to transparently share the bridge links the same physical network without leakage of information between networks. VLAN capable of doing segmentation into several sections as needed and also able to restrict user access by access mode and methods of ACL (Access Control List) so as to minimize network vulnerabilities. VLAN can be one of the solutions for the development of the network. based on the research that has been done indicates results that VLAN are able to improve network performance by as much as 13.4%. And 37.8% stated strongly agree, 46.7% agree, 18.8% declared disagree, 1.7% stated strongly disagree. The results showed that the VLAN is able to improve its performance and can improve the security of the network.
