Abstract

This research is aimed at understanding the students needs towards collection at the library of the state Islamic senior high school Yogyakarta III (MAYOGA). The kind of this research is quantitative descriptive. The variable in this research is single or independent which is the need analysis for students towards collection at the library of the state Islamic senior high school Yogyakarta III (MAYOGA) with indicators as follows : 1) the kind of collection, 2) criteria collection. Scale used is Likert scale which are very agree (SS) score 4, Agree (S) score 3, Disagree (TS) score 2, and very disagree (STS) score 1. Data collecting is initiated by using questionnaries as the main method where as interview, observation, documentation as supporting methods. The population are students of MAN Yogyakarta III in academic years 2011/2012. Samples 86 respondents taken by using Simple Random Sampling technique. In accordance with quantitative descriptive analysis, the result of the research is summarized as follows : the score according to general average score (grand mean) are 3.24. So that the need analysis for students towards collection at the library can be categorized high. The highest indicator rank is the kind of collection with average score of 3.40 and the lowest indicator is criteria collection with average score of 3.08. In the future, it is hoped that the result of the research is expected to become an input to the library in order to improve its collection to meet students need.
