Abstract

The study was conducted due to the importance of Javanese literature work in teaching genre with which moral value applies in the society. The texts were compiled in 9 bundles with different content each so that philologically mapping is needed. P.B. IX was a king of Surakarta and a productive poet. However, acknowledgement of his work is needed as his name was not written in the history of Javanese literature yet. Under his rule, Islam, blended with Javanese culture, was purely implemented. The poems he wrote was aimed at power-management lesson which made them needed to be learnt thoroughly. The study was intended to uncover and described the position of the work in the family of poetic teaching of P.B. IX texts, the concept of power in Islam in Java, and the position of P.B. IX in the Javanese literature history constelation. The employed methods were as follows: modern philology to get text mapping, hermetic to express meanings, historical approach and method to find the position of P.B. IX in the Javanese literature history constelation. In addition, descriptive method was also utilized. The results showed that there were two groups of text variances taken from the same parent, namely text bundles H-A-E and B. Bundle A was transferred into bundles F, X, and G, while text bundle B into D. Text bundles taken from his work in serat wewarah put in bundles D and A were not simply transferred texts but taken from the same source. Meanwhile, mapping on Serat Wewarah, Serat Wulang Dalem Kaping IX, Serat Wulang Putra, Serat Jayeng Sastra, Serat Wulang Rajaputra, Serat Wulang Punggawa, Serat Wulang Wanita, Serat Darma Rini, Serat Wara Ratna and Serat Gandrung Turida from the text bundles were not of the same texts. They were from the same source but from different variance. The texts, therefore, could be transferred in a mixed tradition. In addition, based on these poems, the concept of power of Islam in Java was macrocosm in nature meaning that legitimacy of revelation, degree, and the God king is important; the concept of sangkan paraning dumadi (what will happen is beyond one’s creation) implies God the almighty and tanazul tarqqi.
