Abstract
Interfaith dialogue on digital platforms, such as podcasts, has become an important means of understanding the dynamics of diversity in society. However, there is still a deep need to analyze how religious tolerance is concretely manifested and understood, especially when figures from different religious backgrounds interact. The urgency of this research is to critically explore and analyze the meaning of language and religious tolerance in religious teachings conveyed in interfaith conversations on digital media, as these platforms have strong potential to strengthen harmony and understanding between faiths. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method by applying critical discourse analysis (CDA) from Teun A. van Dijk's perspective. Van Dijk's framework was chosen for its ability to not only deconstruct the linguistic structure of a discourse but also to reveal dimensions of social cognition and social context. The analysis focuses on the interfaith dialogue in Login podcast, episode 9, titled "Bhante: Sendal Saya dicolong Habib" (Bhante: My Sandals Were Stolen by Habib), which features Habib Ja'far (Islam), Onadio (Catholic), and Bhante Dirapunno (Buddhism). To specifically understand the expressions of religious tolerance that emerge in the dialogue, this research is enriched with Paul F. Knitter theoretical approach. Knitter, a pluralist theologian, offers models of mutualism and acceptance as a foundation for understanding how religions can coexist harmoniously, respect each other, and even learn from one another without losing their identity. The research results show that a critical discourse analysis using Teun A. van Dijk's model reveals that information in each sentence of the podcast is interconnected and forms a coherent relationship, creating a discourse structure with deep meaning. From the aspect of social cognition, the ideology of each figure forms a social mindset reflected in how they convey religious teachings and respond to differences. Meanwhile, in the aspect of social context, the practice of power and the distribution of access to discourse influence the communication of religious messages. In addition, expressions of religious tolerance that can be explained through Paul F. Knitter perspective indicate that the religious figures in the podcast demonstrate attitudes of mutualism and acceptance towards differences in beliefs. The information in this podcast is delivered with an expressive, straightforward, and easily understandable language style, showing how values of tolerance and diversity can be communicated openly and relevantly in contemporary religious life.
