Abstract

The development of Quranic exegesis turns along with the shift of society paradigm. When in the early period tafsir was engaged with particular ideology and involved the justification of any sciences in modern period, so that in this contemporary which both Muslim and Qur‘an are always on, tafsir is going to grab its own new face. The research tries to look further the recent form of Qur‘anic hermeneutic when it is virtually practiced within social media through Nadirsyah Hosen‘s online tafsir. Hosen has apparently arranged his theoretical framework before interpreting Quran. That preparation means Hosen‘s sight of audience, beside reader, as fundamental point in the field of hermeneutic circle. In other level of interpretation, Hosen explicitly state that he is trying to always refer to authoritative literatures of exegesis on one hand, though the architecture of social media does not have any support, and optimize simple language adjusting his divergent audiences on other hand and therefore I interest to situate Nadirsyah Hosen as research main subject. An example of Hosen‘s online tafsir is his elaboration on surah al-Rahman (55) in regard with heaven and angel. Hosen cites any classical commentary in that moment and employs some popular allusion among youth including emoticons. The last one, people will not easily to find it certainly in offline. So that, the research shall analyze how is the texture of Qur‘anic hermeneutic when it is applied digitally, what kind of impacts will appear in regard with the engagement. The research finds that if social media get more updated, such situation to make tafsir protected from disruption is more opened—not to mention still in his conventional or neo-conventional form. Expertise of tafsir in context of new media is never really died.
