Abstract

The aim of the study was to determine and illustrate how Symbolic Interactionism in the Art of Rodat Selawat as an Islamic Da'wah Media at Sulthoni Pathok Negoro Plosokuning Mosque, Minomartani Village, Ngaglik District, Sleman Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta. The type of research used was descriptive qualitative. The focus of this research includes three main principles in the Symbolic Interactionism Theory of Herbert Blumer, including: 1. Meaning, 2. Language, and 3. Thought in the art of Rodat Selawat at Sulthoni Pathok Negoro Plosokuning Mosque. The types and sources of data used were primary data through purposive sampling techniques and secondary data. Data collection techniques used were observation, interviews, and documents. The data analysis technique used was the interactive model data analysis method developed by Miles and Huberman. The results of this study indicated that symbolic interactionism in the art of Rodat Selawat is illustrated through verbal and nonverbal communication made by its performers. Verbal and nonverbal communication conducted by the performers of the art of Rodat Selawat are shown through the elements contained in the art of Rodat Selawat including movement, clothing, dance accompaniment, and floor patterns. The performers of the art of Rodat Selawat can interpret the art of Rodat Selawat due to the intensity of staging and training that are performed routinely . The values of Islamic teachings contained in the art of Rodat Selawat at Sulthoni Pathok Negoro Plosokuning Mosque are conveyed by its performers through the staging. The performers of the art of Rodat Selawat use staging as an Islamic Da'wah Media to the community so that the values of Islamic teachings can be practiced in a religious and social life.
