Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic that is spreading throughout the world, including in Indonesia, has prompted the Indonesian government to issue a policy in the form of an appeal to the public to practice physical distancing in worship, work, and study activities at home to suppress the spread of Covid-19 in Indonesia. To support this policy, the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud) issued a circular regarding the implementation of education during the Covid-19 emergency, in which all educational activities were transferred online. Teaching and learning activities carried out online cause new obstacles for teachers in providing subject matter and guidance to students, especially for guidance and counseling teachers who have a mission to solve student problems and must communicate directly with students personally. This research aims to determine interpersonal communication in guidance and counseling services in dealing with student problems during the Covid-19 pandemic at junior high schools in Pedan District, Klaten Regency. The theories of interpersonal communication and counseling guidance are used in this study as a basis for conducting research. The researcher used descriptive qualitative research method as an approach in research. The method of data collection was carried out by observation, interviews, and documentation research. The validity test was carried out by testing the credibility of the data by conducting a more in-depth observation of the source, increasing the accuracy of the data obtained, and triangulating the data by means of triangulation of sources, triangulation of techniques, and triangulation of time. The results of research showed that interpersonal communication of guidance and counseling services in dealing with student problems during the pandemic was the openness between the counseling teacher and students, the care given by the counseling teacher to students by providing empathy and support, and the best solution for solving problems faced by students. That way the BK teacher must be able to direct students to always think positively about the problems they are facing.
