Abstract

This study intends to examine the effect of economic factors on the crime rate. This research model uses independent variables in the form of education, unemployment, income inequality and poverty. The objects of this research are 31 provinces in Indonesia with a research period of 2010-2019. The analytical tool used in this research is panel data regression. The results of this study indicate that education has no effect on crime. Unemployment has a positive and significant effect on crime. Income inequality has a positive and significant effect on crime. As for poverty, no influence on crime. This shows the important role of the quality of human development in a regional economy and the need for the role and intervention of the government in policy making to overcome the problems of unemployment, income inequality and poverty.
