Abstract

Health is the most important thing that is owned by humans. Therefore, various health-related facilities and services emerged, including hospitals, clinics, and health centers. Some of these health service centers offer various types of treatment, including treatment using traditional medicine, chemical medicine, and even treatment using the Koran as done by the Zarra Medika clinic in Singaparna- Tasikmalaya. people have the freedom to choose various forms of treatment as an effort to maintain their health. Based on the behavior of the community (all activities or human activities, both directly observed and those that cannot be observed by outsiders), this dissertation focuses on the reasons behind the Zarra Medika Singaparna-Tasikmalaya clinic in applying Quranic-based treatment for patients, as well as the various motives behind Zarra Medika clinic patients in choosing the Quran as the basis of their medical treatment for their illness. By using the theory of public health and reception theory with a phenomenological approach, the author found several practical findings. First, the use of Quran as the basis for treatment in Zarra Medika Singaparna's clinic is underpinned by the desire to minimize the side effects of drugs continuous drug consumptions by patients who have a high dependence on drugs. In addition, it is also a way to get the Muslim community closer to the Quran. Second, there were some differences in the motives of patients taking treatment with the Quran. These motives for choosing treatment based on the Quran can be grouped into three, 1) religious motives, 2) economic factors, 3) reasons of drug allergy. Third, patients respond well to the presence of the Zarra Medika clinic which provides Quranic-Based treatment. This can be seen from the absence of conflict between the clinic and the surrounding community. This fact is inseparable from the social, cultural, and religious conditions of the Singaparna-Tasikmalayacommunity which are strongly shaped with pesantren traditions. The response of Zarra Medika clinic patients to the practice of Quranic based medical treatment as referring to the typology of Farid Esack, is classified as uncritical lover, scholarly lover, and critical lover. Theoretically, the findings of this study strengthen the view that the presence of the Qur'an has been responded to in various ways, especially by Muslims. The variety of responses are inseparable from the individual reception of the text based on experience. It is also attributed to allow the freedom to fully comprehend the text, or in Iser's term referred to as an "implied reader".
