Abstract

Education is a process which makes a person gain knowledge, balance and perfection in individual and group development. There are many institutions in Indonesia, both government and private school. Madrasah in Islamic boarding schools, for example, Madrasah Aliyah Darul Istiqomah in Ponorogo, provide freedom for students to choose live in a dormitory (Pondok Pesantren) or at home but still participate in the same learning activities in the same building. The concept of boarding school is one of the attractions for the community in general because they can choose to entrust their children to be cared for at the Islamic boarding school or choose to take care of their own children at home. The author examines starting from pesantren-based on madrasah management and student achievement comparisons. Therefore, the author is interested in looking further related to pesantren-based madrasah management, madrasah oversight and comparison of learning achievement between students who are in the dormitory and students who are not in the dormitory, because of course the portion of learning and student achievement obtained will be different. Therefore, this study is to analyze more deeply how the management and oversight of Islamic boarding schools-based on madrasah in improving student achievement at Darul Istiqomah Islamic Boarding School. This research is a qualitative research. A qualitative research method is method used to obtain in-depth data. Sources of data in this study include documents and resource persons, namely the caregivers of Darul Istiqomah Islamic Boarding School, Madrasah Principals, Teachers and several MA students. Data collection techniques are carried out by observation, documentation, and interviews. The data analysis technique is conducted by reducing the data that has been obtained in the field, the process of reducing data is the interview transcript, coding and grouping. After grouping, the next step is to look for comparisons and contrasting from respondents' answers. The results of this study explains: first, to determine the management of pesantren-based madrasahs implemented in MA Darul Istiqomah, including: curriculum management, student management and infrastructure management. Second, there is cooperation between Madrasahs and Pesantren which have the same goal. This is what makes the Islamic Boarding School Based Madrasah Management implemented at Madrasah Aliyah Darul Istiqomah can be able to improve student achievement, both those who live in dormitories (mukim students) and those who does not live in dormitories (non mukim). The three supporting factors are one of the supporting facilities (facilities and infrastructure) and the inhibiting factor is the absence of mushrif / musrifah (dormitory companion), even though with the existence of musyrif and musyrifah, the main problem is to maintain the continuity of the teaching and learning process to be more effective and conducive.
