Abstract

Speaking skills are productive language skills that must be achieved by students in learning Arabic. The productive ability of Arabic grade VII students of Al Azhar 14 Islamic Middle School in Semarang is still relatively low. This is caused by several factors, one of which is the learning model applied is less innovative and monotonous, as well as the lack of use of media especially for proficiency in speaking Arabic. One of the efforts offered as an alternative to solving the problem above is to apply the ASSURE learning model (learner characteristics, State objects, Select methods-media-and materials, Utilize materials, Requer learner participation, Evaluate and revise) assisted by wayang media. The problem examined in this study is how to apply the ASSURE learning model and increase speaking skills of Grade VII students of Al Azhar 14 Islamic Middle School Semarang. The purpose of this research is to master the implementation of the ASSURE learning model and improve speaking skills. The type and design of this research is classroom action research conducted in two cycles. Data collection instruments, data collection techniques, and data analysis using tests and non-tests. The sequence of research activities are: (1) planning, (2) implementation / action, (3) observation, and (4) reflection. The object of this study was students of class VII E Al Azhar 14 Islamic Middle School Semarang, amounting to 31 students. The results showed that: 1) the application of the ASSURE learning model was carried out with six stages namely Analyze learner characteristics, State objectvivies, Select methods-media-and materials, Utilize materials, Requer learner participation, Evaluate and revise. 2) The application of the ASSURE model increases students' speaking proficiency in the material
