Abstract

Independence is an important behavior in children. The process of stimulating the independence of children applying the drill method (exercise) using supporting media and assistive devices. The process of practicing independence is applied from an early age. Because the stages of independence training from an early age are very attached and the basic foundation for children. This reasoning motivates the writer to raise the issue of children's independence. This research is a type of field research with descriptive-qualitative nature and using a phenomenalogical approach. The subject chosen was the chairman of the foundation, the principal, teachers, students, and parents. Data collection techniques were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of data analysis using the Miles and Huberman patterns namely through selection, reduction, coding, display, and verification. The data validity test technique uses triangulation of sources and techniques. The results of the researcher's findings are applied through stages in accordance with the provisions of the child. Initially the teacher gave an example while training children in their independence. The training process is carried out by the teacher every day. The exercise process is applied for approximately 2-3 months. The independence activities that were trained at this institution are as follows: (1) children are able to put their shoes on their shelves, (2) children are able to put their bags on their shelves, (3) children are able to go to their own toilet using a plastic chair media colorful, (4) children are able to eat alone, (5) children are able to clean their own toys, (6) children are able to take their own drinks and recognize their own glass according to their respective names.
