Abstract

This study aims to find out citation errors or in the thesis of the 2016-2017 library science study program at the library of the State Islamic University of Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta in order to know how to cite correctly so that the thesis that will be published can avoid plagiarism. This research is a qualitative descriptive research type that can be used to produce a description of the data in the form of written words containing an activity such as parsing and distinguishing subjects or objects in research. This study took data from the 2016-2017 thesis, which amounted to 159 at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. This method uses the documentation method, namely by analyzing data or facts that are arranged logistically from a number of document materials that provide certain information, then research into member checks for the data checking process carried out to find out how far the data obtained. The document material in this study is the bibliography listed in the thesis of UIN Sunan Kalijaga in 2016-2017. Data collected through the collection of the 2016-2017 thesis bibliography majoring in library science as many as 30 theses or 30 samples. The data is analyzed for writing errors in the bibliography section in accordance with the citation style writing guidelines that have been set in the thesis writing guidelines for that year. Researchers also made additional observations using reference materials in order to increase accuracy in research and obtain final research results. There are 945 citations from various types of literature such as book number 695, journal number 26, E-journal or electronic journal as many as 39 citations, thesis with 98 citations and 75 citation sources generated from internet sources. From the results of the study, it can be seen that errors in writing references in the bibliography in a format that are in accordance with the writing guidelines that have been published by the Library Science Study Program are dominated by errors in citing literature sources with errors in citation writing dominated by the use of punctuation marks in the type of essay, followed by by literature sources E journals with writing errors on incomplete formatting, while journals lie in lack of writing according to the established citation style format, as well as books with only 1 citation writing error and internet sources with citat
