Abstract

Kyai leadership is an important factor in carrying out activities at Islamic boarding schools and the success of education at Islamic boarding schools cannot be separated from the success of the kiai leadership in managing the educational staff available at Islamic boarding schools, especially in improving teacher performance as an indicator of the success of a Islamic boarding school. This thesis research was conducted at the Al-Barokah Islamic Boarding School, Ponorogo. The research objectives are: 1) To describe the charismatic leadership style of Kiai.H. Imam Suyono in the Al-Barokah Ponorogo Islamic boarding school. 2) Describe the implementation of Kiai.H.'s charismatic leadership style. Imam Suyono in improving teacher performance at the Al-Barokah Ponorogo Islamic boarding school and 3) Describing the strengths and weaknesses of the Kiai's charismatic leadership style.H. Imam Suyono in improving teacher performance. The type of research used by researchers is field research (field research) The approach used is the Human Ethology or Human Ethology approach which is qualitative which aims to study human behavior in natural conditions. The data collection techniques through observation, interviews and documentation. While data analysis uses data reduction techniques, data presentation (display data), and checking the validity of the data through triangulation and then drawing conclusions The results of research on the charismatic leadership style of Kiai.H Imam Suyono at Islamic boarding schools show that:First,Charismatic Leadership Style Kiai. H. Imam Suyono can mobilize others by taking advantage of his features or strengths in personality and having supernatural arguments and having a large number of followers.Second,Implementation of Kiai.H Imam Suyono's charismatic leadership style for teacher performance includes having a vision and mission, communicating expectations, strengthening teacher confidence, having good communication and teacher belief in leadership.Third1) The advantages of charismatic leadership in improving teacher performance are that it can increase teacher commitment, foster teacher performance motivation, foster sacrificial behavior, and foster a sense of meaning and satisfaction in teachers. 2) teachers depend on leaders, leaders do not motivate and encourage substitutes, teachers do not have the opportunity to develop programs, leaders decide their own opinions, and leaders tend to be rigid because of their authority and charisma.
