Abstract

Politics is one of the hottest issues in society. Because politics is always associated with various aspects of life. Indonesia has a political culture that often involves a religious figure. This is because religious leaders have a very strong influence on society. One of them is used as legitimacy or a weapon in general elections to draw votes, from the national level down to small villages. Likewise, what happened in Jayamukti Village, Garut, for the village head election for the 2021-2027 period, political contestants hoped that the votes of religious figures or ajengan would side with the contestants. Accompanied by the culture of the Jayamukti people who are very obedient and submissive to ajengan in village head elections. This made the candidates devise various strategies to attract community participants to vote for them to get votes in the community and support ajengan. This semiotic research emphasizes the theory of dealing with sign production. This research method is descriptive qualitative. The type of research is divided into two, secondary data and primary data. The data collection method is by way of observation, interviews, and documentation. The information was collected from village head candidates, community leaders, and the community who were active in the election for Jayamukti Village Head for the 2021-2027 period. The results of this study indicate that the Jayamukti Village Head Candidate in his media campaign uses poster and social media. In the contents of the message used by the village head candidates, they want to embed the issue of religious figures, because the majority of Jayamukti's people are Muslims. So the posters owned by all village head candidates are marked with a color symbol, a cap, sturdy clothes, and the vision and mission of religious issues. In fact, in the formation of the image of the village head candidates, the community does not look at the posters that are scattered, but the image is formed by the temperament of the candidates who blend in with the Jayamukti community. Various images that were formed in the election of Jayamukti Village Head depicted religious, nationalist, traditionalist, and educated figures. In every attempt, the candidate for Jayamukti Village Head will not be successful if there is no encouragement from the ajengan of the Hidayatul Faidzin Islamic boarding school.
