Abstract

Elderly caring for grandchildren will have a positive or negative impact on the elderly. It will even cause a decrease in physical and psychological functions. However, there are elderly people who choose to take care of grandchildren, so they can achieve success in old age. This stdy aims to determine the description and factors of sukses di masa tua in the elderly raising grandchildren. The informants in this study were three elderly, namely there were two grandparents and one grandmother who took care of their grandchildren. Informants were selected using a purposive sampling technique with the criteria of being elderly, elderly taking care of grandchildren, a grandparent and parenting time of one year and intensely caring for grandchildren. The method in this study uses qualitative methods, whit a phenomenological approach. The data used are primary data and the data collection technique used is semi-structured interviewers. Analysis of the data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. The results showed that the features of successful aging in the elderly raising grandchildren include: functional well, psychological well being, living in harmony and mutual cooperation, self-control and emotions, positive spirituality, and positive thinking. Then, the emergence of sukses di masa tua can be found through the factors that influence it, including factors of religiosity, social support, activity, psysical healt, and psychology.
