Abstract

The increasing demand for petroleum energy has an impact on decreasing energy sources. The demand for biodiesel in Indonesia in 2018 amounted to 465.7 million barrels/year, which was obtained from domestic processing and foreign imports. In addition to the limited amount of resources, the cost of obtaining energy is increasing. This can be overcome by creating renewable energy such as biodiesel from used cooking oil. Used cooking oil is bad for health and the environment. Therefore, this can be prevented by creating an appropriate technology, namely a biodiesel reactor. The methods used in this thesis are QFD and Ulrich's generation concept. QFD is used for a systematic search process for Ulrich's generation concept to match the user's wishes. The biodiesel produced by the reactor was tested including water content test, viscosity test, and application on a diesel engine to test fuel consumption. The results of the water content test on the biodiesel amounted to 269 ppm and the viscosity test amounted to 78.9 cP at 25°C. Usage test on Isuzu diesel engine 4JA1-L series with turbocharger and direct injection technology. Fuel consumption test results obtained 10.1 km/litre on biodiesel, while Biosolar B30 12.3 km/litre. This reactor is proven to produce renewable energy in the form of biodiesel that can be used in diesel engines. In addition, the reactor can be used by ordinary people with maintenance only by replacing the filter if it is clogged. The reactor cost Rp 1,685,000, and the production cost was Rp 22,334.10 to produce 8 liters of biodiesel.
