Abstract

PT. Sport Glove Indonesia is a company that produces gloves with a make to order system consisting of five departments namely cutting, printing, preparation, sewing, and packing. The study was conducted in a printing department that produces several styles of gloves, but focused on the Carhartt 783 M style. According to production data for February 2023, the Carhartt 783 M is one of the most produced styles and poses the greatest chance of defects. The printing department has product quality standards, namely defective products produced no more than 1% of the total production. Based on production data, the percentage of defects in the Carhartt 783 M style product is 1.26%. This study aims to determine the types, causal factors, and solutions that can be given to minimize product defects using the DMAIC six sigma method. The results of this study show that the types of defects produced are brunts, shadows, dirty printing, reject material, and do not match the sample. The causative factors of human factors, machines, materials, and methods. The resulting sigma and DPMO values were 4.30 and 2,522.246. This means that the resulting sigma value has a low failure rate. The researcher provides eight steps for improvement to companies that have not been implemented, namely carrying out direct, periodic and consistent supervision of the production process, checking prints during the printing process, checking the heat temperature of the machine to match the type of material to be dried, always check the engine speed settings so that they comply with the specified standards, always check the temperature settings used by the machine so that they comply with the specified standards, and always carry out strict supervision.
