Abstract

Student Psychology as a psychologist candidate needs to have the ability to behave assertively to help solve problems and communicate well. Emotion regulation is one of the factors that influence assertive behavior. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between emotional regulation and assertive behavior in Psychology students at UIN Sunan Kalijaga, Yogyakarta. This study uses a correlational quantitative method. Respondents in this study were 130 Psychology students at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta in the 2021 and 2022 class years with male and female gender. Data collection was carried out using the Assertive Behavior Scale and the Emotion Regulation Scale compiled by the researcher. The data analysis technique used is pearson product moment. The results of this study are p <0.05, r (130) = 0.512 which indicates a significant positive relationship between emotion regulation and assertive behavior in Psychology students at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. That is, the higher the emotional regulation, the higher the assertive behavior of Psychology Students at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, and vice versa. Meanwhile, the effective contribution of regulatory influence on assertive behavior is r2 = 26.2%. Psychology students who have moderate assertive behavior need to understand and improve assertive behavior and improve their ability to regulate emotions
