Abstract

Alumni student organizations are a form of activity as a means of self-development of students and a means to broaden horizons and improve competence and personality integrity. If the work program is not optimal in its implementation, the members/administrators may engage in social loafing behavior. that is, the tendency for individuals to exert less effort with other members towards the same goal than working alone. This study aims to explore the dynamics of social loafing in the BPC INSAN organization. Exploring the understanding of members/administrators about the phenomenon of social loafing, descriptions, factors of social loafing, the impact of social loafing and efforts made to overcome the phenomenon of social loafing. The research used is qualitative and has an interpretive phenomenological approach. The research was conducted at a student organization for the alumni of the Santri Buntet Islamic boarding school in the Yogyakarta area named “Alumni Association of Buntet Cirebon Islamic Boarding Schools (INSAN BPC). Retrieval of data using in-depth interview techniques. There were 4 participants who were selected using the purposive sampling method with the criteria of members/administrators who had done social idling, seen and witnessed social idling, could share their experiences and were willing to participate in this study. The results of the study showed that participants understood social loafing as: 1) Deliberately reducing motivation; 2) Lazy members/administrators; 3) Lack of members/administrators to contribute to work tasks in groups/teams; and 4) Committees who don't like to work. Social loafing factors are: 1) Relationship between work groups; 2) motivational factors; 3) Low self-efficacy factor; and 4) Personality factors. The impacts of the social loafing phenomenon are: 1) reduced human resources; 2) the results of the work program have not been maximized; 3) Contributes less when he works in a group than when he works alone; and 4) mutual dependence. Efforts made to overcome social loafing are: 1) Providing rewards; 2) Building a strong family base; 3) Clarify duties and responsibilities; and 4) Setting clear and more specific goals for each task. All changes that occur are returned to the members themselves. The choice to change or continue to do social loafing is also returned to the members themselves
