Abstract

The Vehicle Routing Problem (VRP) can be solved using software or information systems as supporting tools. However, traditional VRP software and information systems are typically designed for specific cases, making it challenging to adapt them to different scenarios. The objective of this study is to develop a reusable VRP support system in the form of Android-based software. The system will be designed using the Waterfall method and implemented using the Java programming language. Java is considered one of the popular object-oriented programming languages, and therefore, the system will be modeled using the Unified Modeling Language (UML), which includes various UML diagrams such as use case diagrams, class diagrams, activity diagrams, and sequence diagrams. System analysis will be conducted using Data Flow Diagrams (DFD) and Entity Relationship Diagrams (ERD). The system will employ the nearest neighbor and saving matrix methods to optimize routes. Distance calculations will be performed using the Google Maps Application Programming Interface (API), specifically the Distance Matrix API. To initiate the optimization process, system users will need to input locations and vehicles. Before running the optimization algorithm, the system will populate the distance matrix obtained from the Google Maps API into the system. Subsequently, the system will be tested using a dataset acquired from previous research that utilized the Google Maps engine. The results of the nearest neighbor method in the system show a deviation of 6.84 km compared to the findings of the previous research.
