Abstract

The Angkola Batak in terms of managing behavior in the community environment is a group with very high courtesy, it can be seen that every teenager who does not know the partuturon custom as a form of courtesy will get a reprimand from his or her interacting opponent. However, recently there has been a shift in which some unscrupulous young adults have entered into marriages that are prohibited by the Angkola Batak culture, namely marbalik said marriage. Marbalik said marriage is considered a shame for the family in the Angkola Batak community. Teenagers who carry out marbalik say marriages will get sanctioned by Batak cultural customs in social relations, where those who carry out the marriage will be expelled from the village, it is not justified in the makkobar boru custom (deliberation on the arrival of the prospective wife), margondang traditional ceremonies are not allowed, they do not get the title of hamoraon (name of marriage title) and the marriage can change the habitual structure of Na Tolu excuses and partuturon. The interesting thing as a form of study in this Angkola Batak marriage research is that the parenting pattern of parents, family and the community environment instills the paruturon custom as a form of polite behavior in the social relations of the Angkola Batak community. Based on this phenomenon, the authors formulate two problems, namely: 1. What are the values of character education in the traditional Batak Angkola Padang Lawas culture? , 2. What is the parenting style in the traditional marriage of the Angkola Padang Lawas culture? The research method that the authors used in this study was field research directly to the community so that clear data was obtained and data collection techniques were interviews and documentation. Based on the collected data then analyzed using the structural functional theory of goal attainment. Based on the results of the study, the authors obtained the results that there were several kinds of the emergence of speech-marverse marriages in marriages in Padang Lawas Batak Angkola, namely: to avoid damage to the partuturon system (spoken words), the philosophy of Dalihan Na Tolu, as well as the functions of mora, kahanggi, anakboru, and maintaining shame from the ban. Meanwhile, the impact of marbalik marriage is that there is a change in the exogamous marriage system to become an eleuthero famous marriage system that does not recognize any prohibitions or requirements as is the case in the exogamous marriage system. So that the cultivation of character education and parenting patterns of parents can form self-control of children in the social environment and self-acceptance as a form of acceptance of customary traditions in the Padang Lawas Batak Angkola community.
