Abstract

Al-Qur'an is a holy book that is respected, glorified, and guarded by all Muslims in the world. Efforts to respect the Qur'an such as etiquette towards it which has been widely practiced by the community among Muslims, one of which is to bring and put the Qur'an in a safe and clean place. In addition, one of the acts that are considered disrespectful to the Koran is dropping the Koran to the floor because it is believed to be something of high value. This is what happened to the Banjar people where they practice that if someone treats the Koran in an uncivilized way, they make amends by paying expiation for the Koran. They have to do this expiation as a ransom for the fallen Koran, if this is not done then their Koran which has been dropped cannot be read. This research seeks to explain how the concept of expiation applies to adab towards the Qur'an in Banjar society and why Banjar people still apply expiation to adab towards the Qur'an. The result of this study is that expiation is used as payment or ransom for the fallen Koran. The expiation imposed on adab towards the Koran by the Banjar people which must be fulfilled is in the form of reading prayers and serving food. This expiation applies to actions that are considered disrespectful to the Koran, one of which is dropping the Koran to the floor. When this happens, take it immediately and then say the sentence astagfirullah at least three times. Then kiss the mushaf after that put it in a safe and clean place. Apart from that, in the procession which consisted of halarat prayers, congratulations prayers attended by neighbors and the obligatory serving of food, namely lakatan bahinti, kakulih habang and kakulih putih. If this is not done, then the Qur'an cannot be read for fear of getting bad quality and causing discomfort in the heart. The Banjar people still carry out this tradition because it has been passed down from their parents for generations and ancient parents or maritime people. The Banjar people view this as a civilized way of respecting the Qur'an and glorify it.
