Abstract

The attention of the world community today is focused on environmental issues related to the increasing volume of waste, especially plastic waste. Seeing the high consumption of plastic, Yogyakarta as a city of students and tourism has the consequence of increasing the production of waste generated from year to year. Responding to this, there is a group of people who have more concern and attention to environmental problems. They want to invite the people of Yogyakarta, especially young people, to start reducing the production of plastic waste through implementing an eco-friendly lifestyle. One of them is through a social movement carried out by the Bulk Store Vert Terre. Thus, this study aims to explain the concept, form, and impact of new social movements carried out by the Bulk Store Vert Terre in introducing an eco-friendly lifestyle to the public. The type of this research is descriptive qualitative. Collecting data in this study through observation techniques, interviews, and documentation. Meanwhile, data analysis in this study used interactive analysis such as data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of this study state that the Bulk Store Vert Terre is categorized as an activist for the New Social Movements, because this movement is carried out to fight for environmental issues which are included in contemporary issues in the study of social movements. Bulk Store Vert Terre activities are divided into expressive movements and alternative movements. The activities held by Bulk Store Vert Terre succeeded in having an impact on social change that occurred in society. This can be seen from the recap of program implementation, responses from the community, as well as evidence of activities that are widely published on social media.
