Abstract

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), estimates show that one in three women worldwide experiences sexual violence, which is generally perpetrated by men. The cultural context in society plays a role in creating social constructions that contribute to women's vulnerability as victims of sexual violence, forming a patriarchal order that creates gender inequality. Coping strategies are carried out as an effort to overcome stressful situations and conditions that are considered burdensome due to the patriarchal culture and sexual violence experienced. The aim of this research is to find out, describe and analyze the forms of coping strategies used by female teenagers in dealing with patriarchal culture and sexual violence. This research was conducted using a qualitative descriptive approach with a case study method and data collection in the form of interviews, observation and documentation. The subjects of this research were teenage girls with the initials E, who were selected using purposive sampling based on age criteria (13-19 years), experience of patriarchal culture and sexual violence over the last five years, and willingness to become research participants. As a validation step, researchers involved six key informants, consisting of social workers, psychologists, caregivers, and peers. It is hoped that the participation of subjects and key informants can provide deeper insight and diversify perspectives regarding the coping strategies of adolescent girls in facing patriarchal culture and sexual violence at the Mataram Paramita Center. Based on the research results, it is known that subject E uses a combination of coping strategies; in problem focused coping using planful problem solving and confrontation, and in emotion focused coping using self control, accepting responsibility, distancing, and positive reappraisal.
