Abstract

The consequences of good and bad morals depend on how we respond to a problem. Good actions and bad actions are the scope of a moral, and the benchmark for good and bad actions depends on how humans adhere to the norms. Moral consists of positive and negative values both praise and blame behavior. Likewise, a literary work that contains values about life. Thus, it will emerge which values need to be upheld by readers as learning. With this the researcher uses the theory of literary reception as an analytical knife by using the reader as an intermediary for the analysis of this short story. From the results of the research conducted, the researchers found that the short story “Bint Al-Jīrān” contains ideological contestation of positive and negative moral values. In this study, the negative values that dominate the figure of Abbas so that his good behavior is lulled by the association of his friends to get to know a "Neighbor Girl" more deeply, even though this was strictly forbidden by his mother who was worried that unwanted things would happen in his future. So that the factors that influence the short story “Bint Al-Jīrān” turn out to be a lack of support from the family and community to istiqomah in goodness.
