Abstract

The phenomenon of language contact that occurs in Islamic boarding schools is enough to attract the attention of researchers, especially researchers. Language contact is a linguistic phenomenon that has both positive and negative impacts depending on the language speakers who experience the phenomenon. The problem is that the impact of language contact is enough to interfere with the effectiveness of the language environment by female students. Through this paper, the researcher seeks to dissect the language errors that are reflected in the translation of Indonesian-Arabic daily conversational expressions by female students at Madrasah Mu'allimat Yogyakarta and AlIrsyad Putri Islamic Boarding School through an applied linguistics perspective. This type of research is qualitative research with a comparative study approach. The object of this research is the translation of the daily expressions of the female students of the two madrasas which the researcher obtained through field observations. The research method in this research is descriptive qualitative. At the data collection stage, researchers used the note-taking method and the informant method. The results of this study are (a) language interference that appears in Madrasah Mu'allimat Yogyakarta and Al-Irsyad Putri Islamic Boarding School is relatively different from one another. Language interference at Madrasah Mu'allimat Yogyakarta is dominated by aspects of emphasis on vowel sounds, partikel, phrases, clauses, and sentence structures, while at the Al-Irsyad Putri Islamic Boarding School, it is dominated by an emphasis on vowel sounds and sentence structures. (b) The background of this interference is several linguistic and non-linguistic factors, including differences in sound between Arabic and Indonesian, differences in linguistic rules, differences in female students' language habits, language environment, and support systems that include language disciplines in each madrasa. (c) The intensity of language interference that appears at Madrasah Mu'allimat is dominated by the habit of female students who tend to translate word for word, while the intensity of interference at Al-Irsyad Putri Islamic Boarding School lies in the placement of adverbs in a sentence.
