Abstract
This scripture examines the rhetoric of Ustaz Abdul Somad in the management of impressions on his scripts posted on youtube. The framework of this theory is used to see the rhetoric of Ustaz Abdul Somad because of the success in conveying the word to mad’u is very determined by the da’i in conveying the message to mad’u, so that the people listening to him feel interested and able to give understanding to mad'u about the message delivered by da’i. This research is a qualitative study with an analytical descriptive approach. This data collection was done with observations and documentation of the video of the witnesses posted on youtube. For data analysis techniques using the Spradley described there are four stages: 1) dominant analysis, 2) taxonomic analysis, 3) component analysis, 4) analysis of cultural themes Through this analysis, Ustaz Abdul Somad integrates cultural values in his view of how it affects perception of Islamic politics. There are two methods of rhetoric: 1) Dakwah bil hikmah, 2) dakwah bil mau’idza al hasanah. Impression management was developed by Erving Goffman in 1959 in his book The Presentation of Self in Everyday Life where an actor/cleric is formed by the environment and the audience to give the audience a picture of an impression according to the character to be displayed. According to Jones and Pitmman, there are five stages of impression management: 1) ingratiation 2) self promotion 3) intimidation 4) examplification 5) supplication. The playwright understands that in human interactions there is an agreed behavior to the ultimate goal and social interactions work exhibit a different impression. This study of Ustaz Abdul Somad is more dominant in showing self-image and rhetoric as a preacher who can control and convince mad’u according towhatistaughtinthequr’an
