Abstract

This research is focused to Yusufal-Qardawi thoughts on ijtihad concept in relation to Islamic law renewal. Data collection was done by literature resource study to get theoretical framework such as opinions and essays related to Islamic law thoughts to have any kinds of information and data about the patterns of al-Qardawi thoughts. Then, analysis is stressed on comparison aspect in order to get the right conclusion about an opinion along with exact reasons and argumentations. From the research result, it appears that ijtihad is the most urgent substance in Islam ideology perspective. With ijtihad, some problems having not been solved by al-Quran and Hadist definitely are overcome with ijtihad done by ulama (Moslem scholars), and so Islamic lessons can progress immediately in the golden age. The existence of Yusuf al-Qardawi's ijtihad concept was influenced by controversial issues around the closing of the ijtihad path and some contemporary problems occurring in Moslem society. The three ideal basic ijtihad concepts to be applied, according to Yusuf al-Qardawi, are ijtihad intiqa'i, ijtihad insya'i, a«rfijtihad jam'i. Those concepts become a model in order to solve contemporary Islamic law crisis although al-Qardawi, as the founder, had no methodology characteristic (ushul fiqhj which can be concretely applied. To renew Islamic law though can merely be done by putting fiqh, as a product of thoughts in its proportion, revitalizing ijtihad as movement principle, and turning it back to its real function. Ijtihad concept of Yusuf al-Qardawican be made as a model or alternative method in the hope to renewal of Islamic law thoughts recently.
