Abstract

This research aims at proving the existence of influence of the availability of fictional collection toward student’s reading interest and how influential the availability of fictional collection is for the student of SMA N 1 Kasihan Bantul. This research is quantitative research which is conducted in survey research with student of SMA N 1 Kasihan Bntul as the subject and the influence of the availability of fictional collection toward student’s reading interest in SMA N 1 Kasihan Bantul. The variable in this research is the variable of the availability of collection (independent variable) and student’s reading interest (dependent variable). Data collection technique uses questionnaire, documentation, interview, and observation. The analysis is conducted with hypothetical test with the correlation of product moment and then, it continues with the analysis of simple linear regression and the data is analyzed with mean formula. The result of the analysis shows that the condition of the availability of fictional collection in SMA N 1 Kasihan Bantul is in high category with the score of 2,82. The condition of student’s reading interest in SMA N 1 Kasihan Bantul is in high condition with the score of 2, 94. The influence of the availability of fictional collection toward student’s reading interest is in strong category with the correlation score of 0,411. It can be seen from the correlation between X Variable (the availability of fictional collection) and Y Variable (student’s reading interest). The influence of the availability of fictional collection toward student’s reading interest in SMA N 1 Kasihan Bantul can be seen from the r square value which is 16,9 %. It means that the availability of fictional collection gives influence for about 16, 9 % toward the student’s reading interest, and 83,1 % is influenced by the other factors. In conclusion, the availability of fictional collection toward student’s reading interest is stated as influential and is involved in strong category with the value of correlations in 0,411, but the strength of the influence is still really low as it is 16,9%. The suggestion is adding more collection which is suitable with the school curriculum so that the collection will be more utilized by students, expanding the collections which support learning process so that teacher can recommend students for visiting library for finding references in doing their assignment, holding activities which relates to the improvement of reading interest, cooperating with teacher for utilizing library in learning activities.
