Abstract

This research purpose to describe the effect of thematic learning for the students 4 and 5 class reading interest in Islamic Elemantary School of Yogyakarta. This research is a quantitative research. The variable in this study is thematic learning (as independent variables) and reading Interest (as dependent variables). The methods of data collection in this research using questionnaires, interviews, observation and documentation. And the data analysis using a simple linear regression were processed using SPSS version 16 for windows. The results showed that thematic learning has a positive and significant effect of reading interest in Islamic Elementary School Lukman AL-Hakim of Yogyakarta’s students 4 and 5 class. These results indicated the correlation value obtained for 0,385 with significance level of 0,001 >0,05 (5%). Thematic Learning that done by the students 4 and 5 class Islamic elementary school Lukman Al-Hakim Yogyakarta is in good as evidenced by the grand mean of 3,18, and the condition of reading interest of the students 4 and 5 class classified in the high category, which is shown by the results of the calculation of the grand mean 3,11. On the test results of simple linear regression coefficient of the influence of thematic learning for the students 4 and 5 class in Islamic elementary school Lukman Al-Hakim Yogyakarta, with linear regression coefficients can be predicted that Y = 16,627+0,485X with Y (reading interest) and X (thematic learning). Constant of 16,627 means that if there is no increase in the thematic learning, so reading interest is 16,627, while the regression coefficient of 16,627 means that each increase of appropriate story (+sign), it will increase reading interest about 0,485. On the coefficient of determination (R Square) obtained is 0,148 means that the thematic learning variable can explain the thematic learning less reading interest about 14,8 %. This may imply that the 85,2 % reading interest is influenced by the other factors except thematic learning and it was not written. In the thematic learning, teachers should be more creative and take initiative to create a fun learning environment.
