Abstract

The educational system, particularly in Indonesia, has put great emphasis on the mastery of knowledge, science and technology. It sets ‘technical knowing’ as more important and central in preparing students for their future lives. As a consequence, value development and moral character has significantly undermined. This inevitably influences young Indonesian characters. On the other hand, Indonesia is also a big nation which greatly appraises religious values. Therefore, education system as well as educational institutions in Indonesia should also give significant contribution to this religious values nurturing, and values and moral character development. This paper discusses the forms of students coaching on attempts to actualize students’ “religious effects” in Madarasah Aliyah Negeri II Yogyakarta. Based from qualitative research, it is found that the variety of the students’ coaching has experienced several changes started from 2014 to now. These changes appears to be good indicators, that by the implementation of the students’ coaching programs, students’ “religious effects” has, to some extent, improved. However, it should also be noted that more considerable improvement will take place with effective teacher cooperation, teachers’ model, and by building students’ thorough understanding on their religious beliefs.
