Abstract

This research aims to determine the role of Dinas Perpustakaan dan Kearsipan Kabupaten Gunungkidul mobile library in improving students reading habit in Kwarasan Elementary School of Gunungkidul. The method of research is qualitative and this type of research is a descriptive. The subject of this research is the fifth-grade students while the object for this research is the role of the mobile library. The sampling technique that used in this research is purposive sampling. The method of collecting the data are observation, interview and documentation. The researcher uses a model "Miles and Huberman" for the analysis which includes data reduction, data presentation and conclusion. Meanwhile the validity test that used in this research is a test of credibility which covers the extension of observation, triangulation, using of materials reference, and member check. The results from the research entitled "The Role of Dinas Perpustakaan dan Kearsipan Kabupaten Gunungkidul Mobile Library in Improving Students Reading Habit in Kwarasan Elementary School of Gunungkidul" are: (1) as a link between the resources and the knowledge that contained in its collection, (2) establish the relation from each users, (3) provide the various reading materials that fit with students needed, (4) the media facilitator that facilitates of borrowing and repayment collections then the mediator and motivator for student, (5) as a non-formal educational institute through learning independently, and (6) as a barometer in terms of the intensity of visitors, the student's skills, service development and borrowing-repayment collection system. The suggestion for the mobile library are: (1) it should have more collection and the arrangement based on numbers and class colors to ease accessing information, (2) the mobile library collections should be separated to make clear the amount of collection, (3) in the mobile library should be stacked the rules and the flow system of borrowing and returning, (4) training and promotion of library activities such as kado pintar "smart gift" should be notified to the users/ students and often to be held more, and (5) the mobile library should obey the schedule of time arrival.
