Abstract

The problem in this study is the ability to read is the ability that must be possessed by children to be able to achieve academic abilities to the maximum, while in grade 1 MI Ma'arif Kokap in 2017/2018 there are still students who have not been able to read fluently.The purpose of this study was to determine the form of reading difficulties, the factors that caused reading difficulties, the form of guidance given and the results of the guidance given to students who had difficulty reading in grade 1 MI Ma'arif Kokap Kulon Progo in 2017/2018. The subjects of this study were the principals, class teachers, and first grade students. This type of research is qualitative descriptive with a case study approach. The data collection techniques used in this study are interviews, observation, and documentation. While the data analysis uses data reduction, data display, drawing conclusions and triangulation. The implementasion of guidance is carried out trough group conseling and teaching and learning based on counseling. The cuose of difficulty reading in class 1 of MI Ma’arif Kokap namely: 1. Students interest in learning is leaking, 2. Physical factors (visual difficulties). 3. The family environment is less supportive
