Abstract

This research is entitled "Comparative Study between Islamic Classification of the 23rd Edition of Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC), Islamic Classification of the Department of Religion and Islamic Classification of the National Library of the Republic of Indonesia." This research aims to know development, Islamic scientific taxonomy also class numbers and subject comparison between the 23rd Edition of DDC, the Islamic classification of the Department of Religion and the Islamic classification of the National Library of the Republic of Indonesia. This research uses qualitative with comparative research types. Based on the research results known the differences of the three in terms of development related to the development team, development background, development’s references, notation used, search years, schedule structures to the use of helper tables and the use of subjects. In terms of Islamic scientific taxonomy, all three have similarities and differences related to the scientific subject and science covered and in terms of the number of classes and subjects, all three have similarities and differences related to the number of subjects, the use of the subject terms and cases where subjects that accommodated in one Islamic classification schedule but it is not accommodated in other Islamic classification schedule. Based on research that has been done, the Islamic classification of the National Library of the Republic of Indonesia is an appropriate Islamic classification for use in the process of classifying Islamic materials in the library.
