Abstract

This study aims to determine and describe the role of the character of the mother in fostering reading interest in the Novel Perpustakaan Kelamin by Sanghyang Mughni Pancaniti. This type of research is qualitative research with library research (literature study). The primary data source in this research is text in the Novel Perpustakaan Kelamin. Meanwhile, secondary data sources come from books, journals, research reports that are relevant to this research. The data collection method used was text documentation. The analytical method used in this research is content analysis. The results of the research that can be obtained are that the role of the mother character in fostering reading interest in the Perpustakaan Kelamin novel is (a) instilling a love of books from an early age, (b) story telling or telling, (c) inviting discussions, (d) providing reading material, (e) provide motivation, (f) build a library, (g) provide an example from parents. Researchers suggest that this study can be used as a reference for readers, especially parents, in fostering reading interest in children. Parents should provide an early introduction to reading interest, by introducing reading material and being a good role model for children in reading interest.
