Abstract

The purpose of this study to determine the role of Gedhe Kauman Mosque Library to improving the capability of information literacy in local society of Kauman Yogyakarta. This role can be seen from the efforts made by the Gedhe Kauman Mosque Library through various activities held for the society of Kauman. Then to find out the obstacles and provide solutions for the Gedhe Kauman Mosque Library in improving capability information literacy in society Kauman Yogyakarta. The research is a descriptive qualitative research with data collection methods are observation, interview and documentation. Data analysis techniques using the theory of Miles and Huberman are data reduction, data display, and conclusion. In testing the validity of the data using source triangulation, technical triangulation, time triangulation and membercheck. The result of this study are the Gedhe Kauman Mosque Library is role to improving the capability of information literacy in local society Kauman Yogyakarta by holding various activities including Pustalika (Around Kauman Library), SKSD (Seri Kajian Dakwah Islam), tadarus literacy, book review, study guidance, watching movies, LSC (Little Scientists Club), LLP (Little Library Project), Workshop, kristologi discussion. The obstacles faced by the Gedhe Kauman Mosque Library in improving information literacy are divided into 2 namely internal and eksternal factors. Internal factor consist of lack of human resources (HR) manager and lack of communication with takmir. Then the external factors consist of the lack of public awareness of the existence of a library, library users to eliminate circulation books and the existence of a pandemic covid-19. Some of these obstacles cause activities do not to the full. Researchers suggest that the management of the Gedhe Kauman Mosque Library can improve human resources through collaboration with youth and Kauman community leaders, strengthen communication with takmir, collaborate with community reading parks (TBM) and literacy activists in Yogyakarta. With the collaboration of the library can hold large events to commemorate the book day or libray visit. As well as utilizing social media to hold activities online.
